How these job scams usually work.

The pattern is common across many industries. A person claiming to recruit for a real company makes a quick offer by email, text or a messaging app. A check arrives. The new hire is told to deposit it and send part of the money to a vendor for equipment. The check is later returned unpaid, and the bank takes the full amount back from the account holder.
